Strap too long and instructions unclear

I like the watch but the strap is too big and I can't shorten it. The watch comes with a small tool like a screwdriver but I can't figure out how to use it. I'm 85 and go out once or twice a month so I'll have to see if any of my kids visit to see if they can find out.
