Nicely finished and smooth. But they are pretty small. Fifty dice should seem like a lot, but not with this set. The photo shows that the pocket they are kept in is about the size of my palm. I can order another set with more blocks elsewhere. I didn't want big blocks because they're supposed to be used by my grandkids when they arrive so I'll have to keep them, but they were TOO small. But they are good and I'm sure the kids will love them. A. And contrary to what was posted in another review, they are NOT made in the US, they are made in China. Currently, there aren't many toys that are made elsewhere.
