Even though the Nespresso capsules are recyclable, the cost of $1.10 per capsule is a little steep given how much coffee our house consumes. I looked at this re-usable capsule and a couple other brands, and decided to go with this one. The first week had a little bit of a learning curve: how tightly should I pack it, are these grounds too coarse or too fine (too coarse and you get weak coffee, too fine and it won't brew at all), do I actually need the little brush to clean it every time (you don't).The capsule itself is very well made and sturdy. The two parts screw together very cleanly with no fiddling or fussing. Clean-up is quite straightforward, with just unscrewing the capsule, running it under water, and loosening up the packed grounds with a finger or utensil, then a quick rinse and done.For the grind of coffee, you want something between a medium to fine grind. I'd describe it as wanting something still recognizable as coffee grounds and not so fine as to be a powder. Grind your coffee too finely, and it just jams up in the capsule and you won't get any coffee (literally, the machine will shut down after trying for about 5 or 10 seconds with a stream that never amounts to more than an old man with prostate problems).And, fear not! If you like the crema that forms from the official Nespresso capsules, you'll get that here, too!After a couple fights over the proper grind of the coffee, I've grown to love this. I pick my own roast, I can add some cinnamon to the grounds if I like, and I don't feel like I'm burning a dollar bill every time I go for a cup of coffee. If you're looking for a reusable capsule, give this one a try.
