Review on πŸ’§ EKWB EK M.2 NVMe Heatsink Nickel by Matthew Fadoul

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Fits ALMOST perfectly on PlayStation 5...

WARNING - IF USE WITH PS5 (modification/upgrade): Make sure not to push the bottom plate too far forward or it will damage the pins of the m.2- could touch the slot. on the PS5 motherboard, creating a potential short circuit. I actually cut the dremel about 3mm off the bottom plate to prevent this from happening. It's a shame about the base plate, because otherwise it fits perfectly on the PS5... I wanted a Samsung drive because, in my experience, Samsung memory controllers are simply the best out there... Unfortunately, Samsung doesn't deliver the 980 Pro (PCIe 4.0) with a factory-installed heatsink and Sony recommends installing it in the PS5/M.2 documentation. Mentions but just go slow and you'll be fine. I'm glad it holds the disc so well because it provides better contact between the thermal pads and the chips on the disc. EC knows what it's doing. Be sure to remove disc labels/stickers to ensure proper contact between chips and thermal pads. Also make sure all work surfaces are clean and polished. During installation, ensure that the protruding portion of the clip is fully seated in the groove on the underside on either side of the heatsink, then slowly but firmly press down the entire length of the clip, starting at the end, until you reach the other side and the clip should snap into place. Keep in mind that it takes a little effort to get him to crash into the opposite grove. It may be helpful to have an extra set of 0.5mm thermal pads on hand in case 1mm is too thick for your M.2 drive. The only important thing is good contact, it doesn't have to be plugged in so tightly that the circuit board breaks. Overall, I'm impressed with the build quality and materials used! Looks great on my PS5 even if nobody ever sees it, I know it's there :P
