This card is very powerful and offers full gigabit performance. In terms of broader usage, this card will feel the same as the current-gen $300 quad-port NICs. If you need to get a new one, this can't be better. However, I urge EVERYONE to look at used server hardware. You can get a similar quad-port NIC for less than $20, and again, you'll have trouble finding performance differences. I've built an entire tower out of used components (both by recycling my old computers and by buying used server hardware). I can't tell what the difference is between this card and one of the used cards I bought. And used server hardware tends to stay pristine and clean because it's typically installed and never touched again.
