Review on Neewer Beehive Umbrella Speedlite Panasonic by Patrick Ceo

Robust modifier suitable for lighting and studio

Beehive's new octagonal flash is a fairly large (55 inch diameter) durable light modifier. If you have collected traditional softbox mods before this purchase, the process is quite simple. although I wouldn't call it easy. The tension rods are built into the fabric and then connected to the speed ring. Select the slot on the opposite side of the Octabox and insert the next tie rod. Move 90 degrees to the next tension bar and insert it, followed by the next bar straight across from the one you just inserted. Unfortunately there is no manual for this product, but if you do a search on YouTube you should be able to find a similar mod with setup instructions. Once assembled it can be difficult to break. Unlike a softbox with only 4 poles, 8 poles offer a very rigid construction. However, this is good in terms of product stability and will likely be a better fit than more expensive models. It comes with two layers of diffusion fabric as well as egg crate mesh. I'm not exactly sure how you're going to use this with flash as the speed ring is designed specifically for studio flashes. This mod does not come with a separate flash mount. As far as I know, the modifier cannot be mounted without tie rods, but again, due to a lack of instructions, I can't certify that the flash cannot be used with this unit. All in all, I would recommend the device to anyone working in the studio environment. On-site shooters can be difficult due to the size of the unit and each light should be covered with a sandbag to prevent the unit from tipping over in light winds.

Pros
  • Slim design
Cons
  • Long delivery time
