I used a stationary square metal spinner for off ice training but bought it after learning it was a little easier to use. HOORAY. There's nothing stopping this thing from slipping out from under you, which it does easily - either from underneath the spinner or from above. It's very, very slippery. And not in the way you are used to. I've never fallen forward on a camel spin before, but on my second try the thing slipped out from under me and almost hit my face. It's too slippery and slips everywhere. It doesn't help that the rocker is too far back. So if you instinctively shift your weight forward a little, she'll slip. Face plants on a tree are not interesting. Also, keep in mind that I'm no beginner - I can do camels on ice quite easily, but I won't even try anymore. I find it much safer to practice on ice or on a stationary spinner, which teaches you to better center your spins since you can't control them.
