I don't know what I was expecting, but these colored areas are for illustration only. The pillow I received is completely white. However, it has more stable heights to position its head. I've always avoided memory foam in the past, but I'm glad I made that choice. This pillow is initially cool to the touch which is especially nice in the current heat - it's quite firm and firm, I've used it as a backrest (leaning on pillows) when sitting in bed and reading - it definitely helps when sleeping on mine back and feels very stable. I'm not sure if there's any long-term medical benefit, but I've enjoyed it so far; only used a few days. I will return if my experience changes. I suggest putting a pillowcase over it before first use because although the polyester cover is washable, the pillow is heavily filled and will be difficult to remove and replace.
