Review on πŸ–₯️ A-Tech 16GB RAM Upgrade Kit for Apple MacBook Pro, iMac, Mac Mini - DDR3 1600MHz PC3-12800 2Rx8 204-Pin SODIMM by Brian Garrett

Revainrating 4 out of 5

A small issue with the first pair but they were replaced immediately.

Installation and packaging are almost the same no matter which RAM you buy. it was packed correctly. It installs on Mac just as easily as anything else. I upgraded a late 2012 Mac Mini from 8GB and hard drive space to 16GB RAM and SSD. After the last OS update, the machine slowed down to a minimum and became almost useless - even just for viewing and reading messages without picking up the phone. Now it's responsive - at least as good as it was 4 years ago and a few OS updates ago. if not a little faster than back then. The RAM and HDD upgrade took about 1/2 hour (if you have the tools and are used to working with Mac Minis or at least laptops - otherwise an hour's budget). No major issues although I damaged the heat shield but it works fine and I've invested $100 in RAM and HDD to extend it by a year or two. That's fine as it's my fourth computer on my desk and I only use it for chatting and browsing outside of work. Completely satisfied (even impressed) with how much better it loads and runs. So I had to return it so I had to wait a week after upgrading the drive to get working RAM but the return process was easy and they sent a replacement, before the failed drive even got to UPS. An old replacement computer is worthwhile for an 8-year-old upgrade. If I were trying to upgrade a new machine (if you can at all) I would prefer a faster/more well-known RAM like OWC,

Pros
  • Memory
Cons
  • Not as thick as other options
