I wanted to "cut the cable" and did some research which led me to this product. I'm not a techie and I work 50+ hours a week so I like it when downtime is downtime. I mounted this antenna on a pole just below the DirecTV dish (4 feet off the ground), unplugged the cable from the dish and connected it to the antenna. BOOM. 48 untuned channels including all local channels and we are about 30 miles from the TV tower. I had a LONG cable from the dish to the basement and back to the TV so the quality was excellent on some channels and worse on others, but with more effort this antenna will get the job done. Thankfully we renegotiated our DirecTV deal at a much lower price and added a Sunday ticket (we're big soccer fans) so we'll be using this antenna at a relative's house who watches a lot fewer channels than we do. You're basically just seeing the channels the antenna is picking up, so we're going to help you save $33 a month on Comcast Basic. I would recommend this product to anyone who wants to cut cables.
