Here's the problem: the mounts and clamps that hold the skis are SO HERE and limit where they can be attached ie. Too far apart. If they weren't SO STRONG, it would be possible to attach them tighter to each other. But you can't. Therefore, when you try to attach the bars, the baskets get in the way. If it were possible to get the clips closer it wouldn't be a problem. But you can't. My wife has similar clips that are thirty years old but they work. It's sad when the production of simple items gets worse.
