I love this tool! Tried using it on oil tanned leather, no luck. Whether it was leather or a blunt blade I don't know. When I used it on thick, tough leather (around 5-6 oz) the results were much better. I would suggest using a new blade for every 6-8 inch piece of leather. After you cut the first square, flip the blade over for a fresh tip that can be used to cut the next square, extending the life of each blade. Haven't tried thinner vegetable tanned leather yet. Some reviews said watch youtube videos on how to lace up, i say watch them. Get the hole about 1-1 1/2 inches dead center and start slow. Try to make the initial hole as smooth as possible, this will make cutting the tip easier. It's amazing how much lace you make for each square of skin.
