This tool is great for tying leftover leather BUT it's not easy to unroll and get started! You need to take your time in the beginning to learn and use hard leather. Youtube has some helpful videos if you're having trouble!

Wonderful tool. But he has a trick. You will need at least a 2 inch hole in the center of the leather for it to roll. I found a YouTube video that explains how to use this tool. It took me a few minutes of frustration, but once the hole got bigger and I had the leather thread showing it was twisting, I got some laces. Success largely depends on your skin. I love this tool! Tried using it on oil tanned leather, no luck. Whether it was leather or a blunt blade I don't know. When I used it on thick, tough leather (around 5-6 oz) the results were much better. I would suggest using a new blade for every 6-8 inch piece of leather. After you cut the first square, flip the blade over for a fresh tip that can be used to cut the next square, extending the life of each blade. Haven't tried thinner vegetable tanned leather yet.
