Review on MikroTik Routerboard RB2011 UiAS-2HnD-IN with SFP Port and 10 Ethernet Ports by Jared Coleman

The router was purchased for home use on the advice of my local supplier. I've owned over half a dozen routers and installed just as many for friends and family. I have no hesitation in saying that this Mikrotik is the best I've ever used in terms of its very rich feature set, full configurability, vendor patch support and reliability to date. You can configure this router to be just a robust home router with a high SN ratio, but one of its intended uses is in a small hotel. This should give you an idea of its reliability, security, control, and throughput capabilities. To give you an idea of what he can do (he can do a lot more than I can) I've tweaked it. is my DNS server and I use it to suppress malware domains, offensive ads, and general junk for all WiFi devices in the house. In addition to DNS I have >13,000 specially blocked domains (e.g. hosts file related to desktop OS) and then I also convert the Firehol blacklist (with over 600 million malicious IPs) to .rsc format and upload regularly its high. I can log and analyze all incoming and outgoing hits from or against malware domains. The manufacturer is quick to provide online firmware and OS updates for the router. I go every few weeks and update. A few months ago, Mikrotik and many other routers came under serious attack due to a security flaw. Mikrotik was one of the first to discover the vulnerability and quickly fixed it. They have an active, huge online forum and an extensive and frequently updated wiki and guides. This is not a novice router, although it can be made to behave as such. If you're looking for a pre-configured, ready-to-use router, don't buy this one. There are many consumer routers that do an excellent job of this. This fits with the notion that with great customization and a little training, you can get great results. I won't say I've just scratched the surface, but I'm sure there's a lot more to it than that.
