I've never used an LMR-400 so I can't compare it to this one but it was easy to use and is similar to other RG-8 types I've used ( but with better performance). . I messed up one of the N connectors and had to replace it. I used PL-259 and it fits perfectly. It's easy enough to remove and work with the shield. It now powers a cell phone antenna/amplifier and maintains a frequency close to 2GHz without the horrendous line loss you get with a smaller cable. High frequencies (400MHz and up) and long distances especially call for good coax, and if you don't have one, you're putting most of your signal on the coax. Mobile phones use the frequencies 700 MHz and 1900 MHz.
