I'll start with my bias: Miracast technology doesn't impress me. To be honest, Miracast disappointed in my opinion. Streaming HD video from my laptop or tablet via Miracast will never be acceptable to me. I just don't like the quality. I think Miracast works well for slideshows or presentations, but I don't think I'll ever be satisfied with HD video streamed over Miracast. I'm still upset that Revain disabled the HDMI connection from their Kindle HDX devices. Still, I know Miracast has its fans. Many people use Miracast and are very happy with it. I've also used several different Miracast solutions and this is by far the best I've seen so far. My bias aside, I'll tell you what I think StarTech did right with this device. First of all, this device doesn't try to be an ultra-compact transmitter. All of the other Miracast products I've used have been little adapters on the end of a cable. This box is larger and offers more connectivity options. Data options: * USB * HDMI * Wireless Ethernet (WiFi) * Wired Ethernet (RJ-45) Power options: * USB * US wall adapter * UK mains adapter (big, fat two prongs) * European wall adapter (two round prongs) That's it a lot of flexibility for this device. The Miracast signal itself was easier to set up and set up than others I've used. I was able to set it up to see my network and tablet very quickly. Once setup was complete I moved it and hooked it up to the TV via HDMI, plugged in the power to the nearest outlet and mirrored the image from the tablet to the TV. It wasn't a problem and I appreciated all the options. If you're willing to live with Miracast's limitations, you should be happy with this device. I received this product for review.
