If your child could use a bag of Capri Sun, they'll probably get by with this straw and bag combo, BUT an unfinished, unsealed bag will leave a mess in the lunch box and backpack. My son is 7 years old. During a school lunch he learned how to open and use a bag and a straw. He didn't finish his drink and took the bag home. Unfortunately he didn't seal it completely. It leaked everywhere. These packs will likely need to be replaced after two or three uses. The straws were regular plastic straws and would need to be replaced just as often if not every time.
