The old broken part had been in the bathtub for 15 years and was the hardest thing to pull out. There is a cheap $10 tool (Lowes) that would help a lot. I dont have him. Aside from a tool to remove the old one, there are videos on YouTube how to do it. Basically you need to remove the stopper and I used two small vise pliers to grip the crossbars from the side. I also ran boiling water to heat and soften things. then I grabbed the two attached handles with large water pump pliers to unscrew counterclockwise and remove. It took a lot of strength to get started, but once it got moving it got easier. this is a very long thread. Clean everything well with Vaseline on the new thread and screw it in, making sure that it starts straight. Total time 15 minutes.
