Outstanding in image quality and reflected light! Should have listened to other reviews! HDMI overscan issues.

After reading many reviews mentioning the glossy, glossy finish of this beautiful display, I ordered one, knowing I could take it to a dark room where reflections wouldn't be an issue, but I hoped I would could use it for my work . Office. Well, no way, no way! Trust the reviews! At best, you'll see reflections of the anointing in any dark part of the screen, where it essentially acts like a mirror. The computer I installed it on had an ATI Radion HD4000 series display adapter running Windows 8. I connected it via HDMI. (the monitor only comes with an old VGA cable, why?!). There was an approximately 1 inch black border around the native 1920x1080 image. I've spent ages looking through windows and driver settings to find a solution. I tried updating the drivers but found I had the latest version and looked for "Overscan" settings which I confirmed were the problem but I couldn't find them. The ATI Catalyst software reported that it couldn't do anything useful and refused to open. I installed the Dell Display Utility from the CD that came with it and it updated automatically, but also no settings related to Autoscan. After about an hour of fiddling, I manually downloaded ATI's HD4000 driver software, ignored the message that it was already installed and up to date, and reinstalled it. After that I was able to open the Catalyst software and found the % Overscan setting - I have no idea why, but the default settings are about 8% Overscan resulting in a black border - it's crazy. A previous 28" monitor I just unplugged that ran over the same HDMI connection didn't have this issue. Setting Beyond Scan to 0% worked and now everything is fine. This is probably not a Dell issue or related to the Dell display, but it might help someone else. I have not experienced this issue when using 27" Samsung monitors or 28" HannsG monitors on the same computer. I was surprised that the display supports DVI. Maybe Dell doesn't use standard overscan for DVI and 7 or 8% overscan for HDMI, which is designed for HDMI use with TVs and projectors? Images, but a really terrible reflection. Much worse than my laptop with a glossy screen. I should have gotten top of the warnings and wouldn't buy it again, I'd settle for a Samsung or HansG 28" (same size display but a few extra vertical inches). All very nice but that Dell's glossy display is excellent in terms of image quality and reflections!
