This product has a number of problems, the main problem is that it does not work. Since purchasing this I have had several healthy fish that quickly succumbed to fungal and bacterial infections and died. And while I can't claim that the product was contaminated and caused an infection, I certainly haven't seen any preventive effects from using this product. Also, this type of bacteria forms a brown, sticky matrix that it uses to attach itself to surfaces. Since its growth I have noticed a significant decrease in the flow of water through the canister filter. I have cleaned the filter and pipes but the bacteria keeps coming back and clogging the smaller holes. As others have noted the bacteria in the bottle is stinky but I wouldn't judge that for the product. The smell goes away after 24 hours (or maybe your nose will get used to it :-/). However, it is very difficult to tear it off the walls of the bottle. What the company had to do was put a few pebbles made of lava rock or some other inert material into the bottle so that when shaken, they would scrape the bacteria off the walls. FYI, I have used this product in a 55 gallon tank with a canister filter rated for a 75 gallon aquarium. And I change 25% of the water every week.
