I use these blankets for bottle calves under 2 weeks of age when they are most susceptible to illness, especially in the winter when temperatures drop below or near can freezing point. I live in Kentucky where temperatures are probably not as severe as in the Midwest. I don't have a lamp to keep her warm. I keep my bottle calves in a pen with a layer of shavings and a good layer of straw bedding. I usually buy a large holstein which is too big for my angus bottle calves but they seem to grow into them fairly quickly and this keeps them warm enough without overheating.
