Too difficult to use! good for power tool parts and accessories

My husband uses this contour gauge to measure the area of my cabinet while trying to gauge a new hole for my new microwave oven. However, these plastic fins are so hard that they can be pulled out so he tried several times but ended up breaking one fin, unbelievable and frustrating.
