Review on Vev Vigano Vespress Espresso Coffee by Ken Kowal

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Great tasting coffee

We have been using the Bialetti Moka Express 6 cup coffee maker for several years now. both bialetti and vev vigano work the same, but to my surprise the coffee tastes much better on vev. The Bialetti is made of aluminum, the VEV is made of stainless steel, maybe it's the material. Being a 3 cup it makes the coffee faster and unlike the Bialetti I can open it right after pouring the coffee using two kitchen towels to clean and refill to make another cup. With Bialetti, I have to wait until it cools down to open it. My guess is that aluminum expands more than steel when heated. The only reason I'm not giving this coffee maker five stars is that the gasket on the top of the coffee maker melted a bit. this has happened to the bialetti too, but only when i accidentally left them on the stove longer than necessary to make coffee. I use the lowest temperature setting my stove will allow and yet I keep seeing the seal deteriorate. I think I need to replace it with another gasket that is more heat resistant. I hope that for this model the seller has silicone seals or regular rubber seals that withstand heat better.

Pros
  • Made in Italy
Cons
  • Hard to tell
