***Updated 12/13/18*** Having used this bottle on vacation in the Caribbean, I can confirm that this bottle should be used in extreme circumstances. The straw is terrible. It takes a lot of work to let some water through. In fact, after trying to eat more, my mouth and jaw hurt. That's ridiculous. My wife also had one (blue vial) and had the same problem. Our goal was to save money on bottled water purchases. Guess what we ended up with? So. I won't be using this anymore. I had to put up with that and buy a $60 water filter bottle from Revain that wasn't about working to drink. I do not recommend this product. Seriously, you really have to suck on this thing to get the water out. I only tried it once from the tap, it was a lot of work. I bought this great value bottle for me and my wife for our Caribbean vacation. I figured buying bottled water at $3 a piece would certainly help. I'm actually considering returning it because I can't imagine working for a drink of water when I'm dying of thirst and the beach. While I appreciate the idea, it seems like it's going to be more of a headache than anything. I preferred this bottle to another, which I won't name, but it's $60 in hopes it will do the same. thing, clean the water. Now I'm stuck thinking I should have spent the $60 plus one more as it is filtered differently and won't give me a drinking problem. I can't judge whether it works or not. I think you can only tell if you get sick if you use this with contaminated water. Like everyone else, we hope it serves its purpose. The last thing I want to mention is that these are high running costs. I don't think the description mentions that you should rinse the bottom of the straw filter under the tap and then blow out all the water after each use! I tried it once, I remember, and it's the equivalent of trying to blow up 50 balloons for a kid's birthday party. Seriously, who has time for that? I am seriously considering returning this product as my mouth is watering and the level of service is very high.
