Not worth the time or money

I'll say right away I think it's a good system if it works, but right now it doesn't feel like the system is worth it the money or time and frustration; especially if the components don't last a whole year with only occasional use. So far I have had several problems with this system. I originally purchased these grips on December 1st, 2020 and installed them on December 11th, 2020. On first use, the temperature on the right side of the handle was high enough to cause first-degree burns from the glove at the lowest temperature. I contacted the dealer to let him know what had happened and he was very helpful and quickly gave me a replacement grip. The new grip worked better, but temperature was still poorly controlled; I figured it was probably the controller for now, but didn't bother swapping out the controller box as I could just turn off the controller if the heat got too high. Fast forward to October 4th, 2021, my bike was unplanned. Stored for 6-7 weeks (I had to have emergency surgery) and couldn't disconnect the battery or connect it to a charger. I thought the battery was fine and would start right away, especially with the touted "intelligent controller" that "turns off if the voltage drops below 13.5V to ensure the battery doesn't drain or get damaged". but no battery. was dead. It was not possible to bring the battery back to life as the charge dropped to 1.4V DC (I tried), so I replaced the battery on the evening of October 7, 2021; The voltage at installation was 12.7 VDC. The next morning, when I put the seat back on and cleaned my bike, I felt heat from the controller as I wiped it with a dry cloth to shake off the dust. I checked the battery voltage again just to make sure it was dropping and in fact it was around 11.3V DC. I turned everything off and charged the battery. I was wondering if the heated grip controller was draining the battery and checked the temperature of the controller before connecting the battery and heated grip system. 65.3°F. I connected the battery and heated grips and after 5 and 10 minutes checked the temperature of the regulator; 72.6°F and 81.2°F respectively. I tried the buttons on the controller, no response and no LEDs. Assuming the controller has failed and for now it's just a resistor draining the battery so I removed the built in fuse. I contacted the US distributor through their "Contact Us" page; No Answer. I called her phone number provided; disabled. I ended up contacting the UK manufacturer/distributor through their contact page and received a reply to contact their US distributor using the direct email provided for a solution. I want to replace the controller but it is not available anywhere. in the USA. Again, I think it's a good system when it works, but at this point it doesn't seem like the system is worth the money, time, or frustration; especially if the components do not last a whole year with partial use.

Pros
  • Smart heat setting memory
Cons
  • Only available in black
