Review on PetAg KMR Liquid Replacer for Kittens & Cats, 11oz Can, White and Tan Coat (99509-1) by Tanya Samuel

Very good for cats

I bought this for a 6 week old special needs kitten (SugarCheddar). He had several eye infections and I used an antibiotic eye ointment which cured him but by then he was stunted and much smaller than his littermate (SpiceBarry). I assumed the infection had used up his calories and prevented him from growing as fast. But then I realized that he's not doing as well and not developing as well as his brother. It reminded me of a baby with cerebral palsy. I had some tuna juice on my fingers when I fed it to his mother (sunflower) and SugarCheddar tasted it and went mad trying to bite my finger. So I gave him a pipette of tuna water and he was so hungry I knew he was hungry. Apparently his developmental problems, mainly low muscle tone and jerky movements, prevented him from nursing adequately and he could not get enough nutrition from his mother Sunflower. I needed to get him something to eat quickly, so I looked online for solutions. Some websites had cat food that involved mixing evaporated milk with whole egg, pedialitis and baby vitamins, but I was uncomfortable with raw egg as raw eggs are full of bacteria and I didn't have pedialitis. or children's vitamins. So I just diluted some condensed milk and fed him. All I had was a dropper and I thought he would bite off the tip, he was so hungry. He couldn't control his head movements very well, so I wrapped him in a towel and stabilized his head with my hand, feeding him with a dropper. and found this product. I immediately shipped it along with PetAg® Complete Small Animal Feeding Kits and Replacement Teats and KMR® Kitten & Cat Powder, 12 oz. I kept him on condensed milk until KMR liquid came - he likes it a lot more and eats even better with KMR liquid now. SugarCheddar is bright, curious, happy and pain free. He loves his mother and his brother - and his people. I hope that after a few weeks of growth and training his muscles will get stronger and he can overcome his lack of coordination so he can develop normally. His mom and other cats love this stuff too - if they get a chance they lick the cup I use to warm his milk. Haven't tried the dry powder formula yet - a jar I bought lasts several days if I'm just feeding a small kitten. My only concern is the price and the fact that it comes in a pull-tab jar. It would be a lot easier if they packaged it in a bottle with a stopper. And it's a little expensive. I hope the powder works just as well - I'll test it when I use it.
