Review on πŸ”₯ High-quality Exhaust Heat Wrap - Design Engineering 010121, 2" x 15' Roll in Black by Paul Barnes

Revainrating 5 out of 5

I say great for heat wrapping, matting and coating

This was ordered for a whole house propane generator (Winco/ONAN 25kW). The original 14 year old packaging fell off and I could see the glowing red tubes. I've found that all exhaust pipes glow and people rarely know about it, but wrapping is important to keep the internal heat in for better combustion and the locally intense external heat to keep other things (vacuum lines, hydraulics, wires, etc.) . Head temperature is around 700-900 degrees Fahrenheit, so it's best to wrap it up. This is fiberglass so you MUST wear a mask, goggles and gloves. It was so hot in here that I didn't use gloves and didn't notice, but the fiberglass in my hands was like heating a house. You should not soak it in water like the old type of asbestos. The instructions recommend wrapping every 1/4 of the width, but I've been told half is fine (I bought 2" x 15" and used 2 1/2 rolls). This needs to be started, so use a stainless steel tie (I bought this at the store). same company on Revain). They look a lot like SS cable ties and are great too; 8 packs) or they will continue to unroll if you pull on them. Wrap them tightly, but you can't tighten them until you wrap the next half first. Note that when it first heats up (starts the engine), it smokes heavily. If it's in a ventilated generator room/shed you can't breathe and it looks like the shed is on fire with all that smoke. It only heats the chemicals on the packaging. Overall, it was a complex, time-consuming, but successful project. I think these pipes were wrapped at the factory and installed later in the process as they did a too neat job covering them up. blocked in places by other things on mine (like mounting screws and cooling fins) Seems to work well The old foil was brittle and fell off. It's been a long time, but I rarely open the pages to see it in action. Take the time to get it right and check your pipes regularly for any need. Hope this helps someone.
