First impressions of this thing were terrible! I hated it and wanted to give this a negative review. I went through it and now I really like the end result. I hope that if you share my tips, your experience with it will be better than mine. Unfortunately, you can't get past most of the plastic. Although on the ceiling, I hope it doesn't fall apart. If you have children, you know what to expect from them. You can't get past the concealed craziness either! If you've installed a ceiling fan before, you'll find it's a completely different experience! The fan blades themselves looked very disappointing. I didn't measure, but from the looks of it they can't be any bigger than 8 inches. Several photos are included to share what I did. You can take the advice with a grain of salt and realize that I am unlicensed and not considered a professional in any way. Most fans contain a hot blue wire or something similar and a white neutral wire. The blue or other wire is usually for the fan and is connected to hot most of the time. A flick of the switch makes both work, and you can pull the chain to turn them off or adjust the speed. This circuit has 2 wires. brown and blue. I built a coat hanger and mount hanger for the previous device to hold the device while I "tested" my instincts from brown to hot and blue to neutral. I had to give up the idea that one was for the fan and the other for the light and my first guess was correct and I got great results! I then had to decide if I wanted to use lever screws and their 3 holes to hang it up because I didn't trust dowels and tiny screws to hold it to the ceiling. In the end I took a piece of cardboard and made a hole template for the box already in the ceiling, I drilled two holes in the plastic bracket and used it. I believe it will keep it cool. In hindsight I would like to add some washers to make the cargo area even more secure. Still personal preference. The only thing I see as a result of using snap bolts is more even attachment around the edges. Better pull it up to the ceiling. I'm not that picky because no one is going to look at it at the same level to see that half a millimeter gap, if any. If I had gone the lever screw method, I would have used 3/16" screws. A quarter inch would work, but you would have to tap the hole with a screw because it would be too big a screw for the hole. Whatever you choose ", there's nothing wrong with using traction washers! It was a feat tightening the nuts to connect the block alone. You would be much better off if you had help at this stage, if any. Again I used a hanger to. keeping the fan and wire feed slot in the bracket. This is where the design team could do better! Add a bracket and a place to attach the device, and a small hook to hold the device while the installer connects the cables! The lack an insane 23A 12V battery for the included remote control was another annoying hurdle, luckily it didn't take long for me to get the app installed on my phone and figured out how to press the home button within 5 seconds of turning on the backlight/fan. Here are the things that gave me the opportunity to give this one star. It works great with just one light switch! Turn it on and you get a nice nice bright light. VERY nice light! Turn it on, then turn it off, then turn it back on and you have a fan. If you do this three times, you will get BOTH the fan and the light! Just like pairing the remote and the phone app, you should do this within a few seconds. They say 5 I didn't notice. In the end I am very satisfied with the device. I still wish the case was a little stronger than the cheap plastic to make it safe for a kid's room. I wish it had a ground connection so I would feel better about installing it and I really wish it came with decent instructions! No instructions, cheap plastic and a loose center piece in my unit, awkward mounting plate design and the risky proposition of just wall plugs and screws to mount to the ceiling. And no battery for a remote that doesn't use a standard size AA or AAA battery. I really have to give 3 stars for that. Once you figure out how to sync the remote and app, all the installation stress is over. The tiny fan blades actually create a nice amount of airflow directly underneath the device. The lights are bright and beautiful, and being able to change the speed of everything is so much better than pulling strings and counting how many times! Would I buy again? I probably would have because the end results are amazing! I see this in my basement bedroom and it benefits greatly from having it installed! I would highly recommend for rooms with sloping ceilings if the unit was made from a more durable material. What it does and how it works after you go through the install is definitely 5 stars. i really like it I'm taking one star for the size of the fan blades and a cheap plastic center piece that falls out and won't snap into place, and one star for the lack of information that came with the unit. They didn't even share the size of the battery for the remote in the battery compartment. I had to do a lot of research to understand this thing!
