Anyone wondering what an EGR valve does must agree that sucking in exhaust gases and directing them into the intake manifold without any or filtering is just banal stupidity . As the engine ages and burns more oil, that crap then goes back into the engine. The piece was really well built, bolted right on and was very easy.
