Good wooden spoons, needs polishing and mineral oil

These spoons are very good. They have an interesting shape - a little more "scoop" than a typical flat wooden spoon and a larger and more comfortable handle. I like them and I think they will do the job very well. When I first got them they didn't seem very rough, but after the first wash the surface of the wood opened up a bit and they were noticeably rough so I sanded and oiled them. They are very easy to sharpen and only take about 15 minutes, but I'd happily pay more money to have them properly sharpened and even oiled. I started with 150 grit sandpaper smoothing out the imperfections and then continued. with 220 grit, giving them a soft, smooth finish. Since the wood is relatively soft to the touch, I didn't use sandpaper below 220 grit. There was a big difference after sanding, so I highly recommend it if you have 150 and/or 220 sandpaper. After sanding and washing them, I let them dry completely. I then coated them with edible mineral oil - I still have a bottle of tree spirit mineral oil that I used on my wooden cutting board. There seem to be several types on Revain that are listed as "Cutting Board Oil". I apply several coats of oil to the spoons for a few days before using them again. The instructions on my mineral oil bottle say to coat once a day for a week, then once a week for a month, then once. a month after that. It is also said that the wood must be dried quickly and thoroughly after washing. And never wash wood in the dishwasher.
