I have found this device to be really accurate in locating wooden studs and live AC power cords. My simple accuracy test was to find the center of my first stud and see if the center of the second stud was 24 inches apart. The distance between centers was measured at 23.75 inches. For repeatability, I measured the distance from this second stud to the third and it was 24.25 inches. I don't know what tolerance builders need to consider, but it's close enough for me. Over the years I've been frustrated with various "Thornfinders". ". My search is over. I bought another one the same day I received this one and gave it away.
