Elegant, simple and fun, this piece is sure to spark debate as to how it should be used. Egg shells vary in thickness, so there's really no "right" or "wrong" way. except MY way (or highway) of course. Just drop the calibrated bead and you're done! (I poke the "cap" with a paring knife.) I should mention that I have eggshell phobia ("ovitestaphobia"?) and this device has been successful in minimizing bits of eggshell (gaack!). A chip or two needs careful separating from time to time, but it works MUCH better than my husband's egg cracker, which has a handle that you pull back and click to crack the egg - all or nothing. I am very, very happy and relieved to discover this brilliantly engineered German alternative to cracking and tapping eggs with a spoon, and I have no problem with the Chinese doing this. if you follow the German guidelines exactly!
