I don't know if it says "artificial leather" or PU leather somewhere, but it has to be because it's not real leather. But as they say at a very low price this is a very nicely made waist belt. My only concern is that mine is 6 inches too long. I measured my hips and added 1 inch to be safe. How it turned out to be six inches taller is unclear. Maybe I'm not aware of the dimensions of the webbing straps. I don't usually buy them online. I ended up punching a hole where I needed it and so it's fine except now I have this long end of an oversized belt sticking out towards me and buckles on my jeans. too tight, to miss a double! Here's a piece of information for anyone who, like me, has never bought a belt strap and its buckles: As it turns out, it's not that obvious which size to go for. My jeans are 29" as indicated on the inside tag. I ordered a medium size and it was too big! I've now ordered the black ones, in the "small" version, to see if they fit. the correct length. I also measured the width of the belt loops on my jeans and found they were all the same: 1.5". Good stuff lol! So this strap is the perfect width. Also, the two buckles I used for Received these straps, 1.5" wide. Everything seems to be working great lol. I'm happy with what I have!
