Review on 4 Channel 4 Camera Defender 4K - 1st Generation Legacy by Sean Sitton

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Never before has an "up " felt so much like a downgrade.

I upgraded a 21000 series Defender and was happy with it. I planned to replace my current cameras (in important locations) with newer (higher resolution) ones and then use the old cameras in new, less important locations. Never before has an "upgrade" felt more like a downgrade. I was about to get it back. Then I had a change or a heart and started exchanging cameras. Then I thought about returning it AGAIN. Here are my complaints: - Doesn't work with my old windows program (DVR client) or any other program I found (I use it to keep an eye on my fort). - That does not work. I have a Windows program replacement! It really sucks! This is a showstopper. To view them on a PC you need to use a web browser (and so far I've only been able to get Internet Explorer (and I don't really like using IE). You also need to use IE to go back and see what was recorded and save it on your computer.Invalid.-Does not work with the previous Android app (ClearVu).-The new Android app (Defender 24-7) does not work with the 21000 series DVR (my old DVR). being able to use both programs to view my 16 cameras - the cable connectors were bigger (that button and cap basically) - which meant I had to drill bigger holes - the cameras have 2 tiny screws for 2 settings My previous cameras had 1 screw that could be turned with a finger (like a wing nut but a screw) This may not seem too bad but in some of my tight spots there wasn't even room for a short screwdriver, so m didn't have to move the camera the other way so I could get to the screws. he camera as high as I wanted. All so they can save a few cents (RMB or whatever). A little less hassle - the camera mounting holes didn't match my old cameras. (I know things change. It would be easier if they didn't.) - The camera cable was a bit shorter before it got into the big plastic "plug" thing (causing it to barely reached my previous holes). Another inch (2.54 cm) would be nice. (But who knows how many fractions of a penny they saved.) - Even the BNC connectors on the DVR are in a different order. What's good: - They have higher resolution - Brighter image (day and night) - You're easier to see at night. If I had known I couldn't use these cameras the way I used my previous Defender camera system I would have continued shopping. If I decide to buy another one, I'll first check what software it has.

Pros
  • Decent performance
Cons
  • Easy serviceability
