These protective cases didn't convince me at all. I got them just in time to make pumpkin pie for Thanksgiving and I was dying to try them. The weight of the silicone was resting on my filling and this caused my filling to come out onto the crust of my pie as it cooked. My fire alarm went off and there was an awful smell of burning. When I took them off some of the pie filling went with them. My crust edge seemed to be more cooked than I prefer. For my next batch of cakes, I went back to my foil routine and they came out great! I think these silicone protectors would probably work better for a cake with a crust on top.
