This was the perfect product for hanging Christmas lights *under* my 1x6" eaves without even reaching over my roofline to installing other/traditional clips under clapboards or on gutters (my eaves extend 2-3.5 feet from the outside wall and 15-17 feet off the ground). very secure on 1" thick wood and I wasn't afraid it would break. Read other reviews for experiences with thicker curtain rods. I expect you'll have success with even thinner woods. I use icicle lamps and we've had in those some very windy storms the last few days and although the icicle lamps have been swaying in the wind none of the clamps have lost their grip one thing i will try next winter i will try to mount the clamps this way using the bottom support brace/ the bottom shaft faces "forward" (away from home).I live in the Midwest, and as long as I can get the lights on. Get up before the snow falls, the ground probably won't be covered with ice and Be covered in snow when I want to photograph them My theory is that if I held one end of the string I could be standing far enough from home to get a shallower angle to create and then carefully pull the light out of the lower retaining clip. Once the ice/snow has melted I can get the clips out more safely in the spring. My only complaint is that they only come in white, which seems to be the standard for all these clips, but what about those of us who don't have a white house? Especially if I end up leaving the clips at home for a few months like I explained above, it would be nice if they didn't contrast in color with my home. Given that it's literally the only product on the market right now that fills that niche and the clips do the job very well at a very affordable price point, it would be unfair to give them one star for that.
