I recently cut the cable and tried several different models of HD antennas. I found these appealing because of the slim design for the TV mount and the ability to avoid wall mounts and visible cables. I live in Bucks County, Pennsylvania outside of Philadelphia. I was only interested in getting the main local channels from the antenna (3,6,10,17,29,57 - ABC/NBC/CBS/FOX/etc) but this antenna was actually able to find over 30 channels for me ! I've seen better results with this antenna on the first and second floors than in the basement. In the basement I could still receive about 30 channels, but 6-ABC and 10-NBC weren't that easy to get. I couldn't just place the antenna on top of the TV, I'd have to move it higher toward the ceiling to get it, but that defies the design intent of this model. I've only been using it for a few days, but the HD picture quality is also very good, visually not much different than the HD Fios Box. I mainly watch sports (NFL playoffs) and am very happy with the picture quality. The only obvious advice is to read the antenna instructions. Just plug in the antenna and switch to the channel that doesn't work. I tried it first and got nervous when nothing was found. The instructions say you need to connect an antenna and scan channels from the TV to find channels. After that, more than 30 channels were found. Setting up and installing this model is easy and only takes about 5-10 minutes. Small and lightweight, it attaches to your TV with a clip in seconds without tools. The antenna connects to the TV via the included coax cable, I'm guessing around 6 feet. The amplifier connects to the antenna via a coaxial cable (included) and is also quite small, the size of a travel pack. The amplifier requires a power connector that is designed to be plugged into a wall outlet. With this model, the amplifier MUST be powered from the wall outlet. I've seen other antennas that allow the amplifier to be plugged into the TV's USB port, which is very handy when the TV isn't close to an available outlet, but this model does NOT have that feature. The antenna, amplifier and all coax cables in my set were black. I generally prefer the discreet look and easy setup of this type of antenna over panel antennas that mount on the wall, but what really counts is the number of channels found. and image quality. I ended up taking a hybrid approach using this TV antenna on the ground floor and upstairs and a panel antenna in the basement. View a list of channels that should be available and even recommend the antenna model that works best for your area.
