I was looking for a portfolio to carry with me to meetings. I wanted a letter size legal pad, place for cards and a place for storing loose papers. This product has all of that. I also wanted it to look nice -- no cheap plastic with sharp edges for me! This fills that bill too. It had not occurred to me about a pen holder. I assumed they were automatic in this type of item. To be fair, the holder does have a pen keeper, but it is on the outside of the pad rather than the inside. I actually found it by accident when changing the pad. If it were in the center, that would work better. I don't use the pen holder because it gets in the way. Instead, I fold the pen into the center where it seems to stay fairly well.
