Obsolete security and surveillance junk

This is an old design and lots of junk. I read the reviews and all I could think of was Stockholm Syndrome with DSC and the alarm industry is slowly embracing new technology. First, the device is bulky, more than an inch from a wall with a huge bezel. It's missing some of the basic features you'd expect, like the Nest thermostat; There is no built-in motion sensor, so the screen is either on or off all the time, it doesn't support turning on the display when you approach the playground. It doesn't have a built-in photocell, so the device doesn't dim or brighten depending on the ambient light. It's clumsy to use. DSC claims that the home buttons are "programmable" and can only be turned on or off. I bought the device to test, I might have kept it if the home buttons could be programmed to control output, but I can't find support for this basic function. Given the bulky, thick bezel and lack of programming, I guess I'll wait and see if DSC wakes up and designs something that looks sleek and works like a modern home remote with motion detection, auto-dimming, and programmability (maybe even wink). keep it up and make something decent.

Pros
  • Nice packaging
Cons
  • Exchange possible
