These shelves are VERY well made I was impressed they exceeded my expectations. I thought they were light, thin and flimsy, but far from that, these things will definitely outlive the life of a newborn baby. worth your money. I also really like that this company really thought of installation in their design. The mounting holes on the sides are 16" apart so you can screw BOTH sides directly to the wall studs instead of using those cheap plastic anchors that will never hold. No matter how silly it may sound, there are hardly any shelves with such a distance. suitable for installation in wall posts. The shelves come with those wall anchors so you can mount them anywhere on the wall, but I've always had good luck mounting things in wall studs. The choice is yours. As for "how long will it last?" Again, it really depends on how you install it. If you're installing it in wall studs I'd say you could probably put 30-40 pounds on it easily. Keep in mind this is only a 17"W x 6" shelf so I don't know what you think will fit on it with that much weight. I think bullion could be a concern. But if you just aimlessly screw a shelf into the drywall with wall anchors, I honestly don't trust them and I wouldn't put more than 10lbs on it or it could pry the anchors through the drywall and everything would fall to the floor. Not the manufacturer's fault, it was just that every shelf I've installed with plastic wall anchors wasn't very stable or secure, so I bought these bad boys. Finishing, worth the money, you won't be disappointed. And if installed correctly, they will last a lifetime. I plan to buy many more of these to replace other floating shelves around the house. I just wish they had 4 packs in black like they do with the white ones.
