Of all the products that have made technology easier and easier to use, we've still filled and opened our wine the same way for centuries. I'm not sure if the cork is really the best way to store wine or if traditionalists are the main consumers of wine. I'm just the occasional drunk who gets frustrated trying to uncork a new bottle and sometimes leaves the corkscrew on until I find someone to open it for me later. I figured an Easy-Lever Corkscrew Gift Set would be just what I needed to help me open a new bottle with little to no frustration. Well, it's less frustrating than my old corkscrew, but still a little disappointing. First, there are no instructions. Of course, the picture on the box helps a little, but it would be nice if there were detailed step-by-step instructions for us idiots. If you're having trouble with that, it's very important to keep the lever down as you screw the corkscrew in, even if it wants to go up as you screw it in deeper. Otherwise, the screw will come out without a dowel. If you got it right, just squeeze the inside handle and raise the step and the cork will come out as easily as possible. The hardest part was removing the connector from the screw, which was a little harder than it should have been. This gift set also includes a foil remover which was easier to figure out than a real corkscrew: just place it on the bottle. rotate leaving a clean cut in the foil around the neck of the bottle. It also includes an extra worm (I think that's the official name for a screw), although at first glance it doesn't look like an obvious replacement. Again, instructions might be helpful. After experimenting with this you can unscrew the top where you can replace the worm. The great advantage of this item is that it looks very stylish. It comes with a sleek case that you'll want to place on your bar counter or wine cooler. And indeed, you have to show it off somehow, because even without a case, it takes up too much space in each of your drawers.
