Turn on the power, it immediately starts dripping randomly. There isn't a choice of templates, which is good. We've had very little rain and snow and so far everything is working. They seem to be quite durable, 2b has been used for several seasons/years. Easy to install, and when you connect multiple sets (maximum 5), you can unplug and connect the next set and the distance between the lights will remain the same. We used the cable anchors we had at home (they look like an "h") and they fit snugly on each dripper so if installing on a slanted spot (like we did) you can adjust the angle like this that they look vertical. We used 3 sets in one place and 2 in another place (see attached picture). The #2 power cord didn't reach the splitter, so we added unnecessary cords from #3 to extend #2 to reach the outlet. Pretty cool and handy if you ask me! If we needed more we would buy again from the same place, $10 a set, you can't beat them. Manufacturer's suggestions. I wish they were a little longer.
