
The white wire inside seems to have been damaged in a place my point knife never touched when cutting the case. A little tension was enough to break the white wire and slip out of the sleeve. The part where it breaks was a diagonal slash. Luckily I didn't buy it as a data cable. I cut another two inches from the side of the outlet to get to the wires that were still intact, cut the green and white wires, removed them, soldered them together, and re-taped everything. I made sure the exposed solder wires were between the layers of winding. I now have a charging cable that allows an Android smartphone to draw over 500mA when charging from a computer's USB port.
