Will weaken over time but is better and more versatile than the magnetic holder I had. Some of my cases are quite thick and the magnets (even those for iPads) weren't strong enough through the back of the case. I didn't want it on the outside of the case so I got this one. It's durable, and while you have to use two hands to insert the phone, it works well once it's in place. Some connections loosen a little over time, but can be tightened easily. I'm not worried at all about it coming off my windshield - it's definitely strong there. Also, the clip that holds the phone is nice and strong, but it doesn't damage the phone or the case, and it's not too difficult to remove from the phone.
