Review on ๐Ÿ“ท Peak Design Leash Camera Strap Ash (L-AS-3): The Ultimate Photographer's Essential by Ricardo Fast

Revainrating 5 out of 5

The best camera strap I've ever used. Expensive but worth it.

What I love most about this camera strap (or "leash" in Peak Design jargon) is its length. Fully extended length 57 inches, minimum length 32 inches. I use this leash with the Canon G7X-II, which is a small, lightweight point and shoot camera. This line is strong enough to withstand 200+ so there is no chance of it breaking and dropping my camera. Peak also sells a more durable strap for DSLRs (and presumably small cars!). The leash includes 4 brackets that attach to the camera, 2 are required, 2 are spares. The mounts have strong, thin lanyard loops that thread through the camera strap mounts. Anchors, in turn, snap to the ends of the line. The beauty of this system is that the leash can be quickly and easily removed from the camera if desired. The clamping mechanism feels solid and secure, and accidental release is unlikely. The leash can be used to attach the camera to a shoulder strap or as a shoulder or neck strap. The canvas material is comfortable in all of these positions. The leash length adjustment mechanism is perhaps the smoothest adjustment technique I have seen and can be used while wearing, even when walking. If I seem very impressed with this leash, it's because I am. However, there are two problems with this leash: 1. The leash also comes with an anchor that screws into the camera's tripod socket. Attaching this anchor to the bottom of the camera makes it impossible to mount the camera on a tripod. However, I couldn't find a configuration where this lower anchor would be stable for my compact camera, so it's not a problem as I will never use it. However, this device can be very useful for very heavy cameras like the dSLR.2. The leash is a bit pricey but you get what you pay for. Would I buy this leash again? Definitely yes.

Pros
  • Stylish and modern design
Cons
  • So-so

Can't believe I waited this long to get one of these.
