We have a full size heavy solid door that leads to the attic and behind that door is a fan for the whole house. We used to prop the door up with a chair as a regular doorstop couldn't hold a heavy door open, especially when the fan was on. We bought this doorstop on the recommendation of a friend. While not quite designed for its current use, it gets the job done and made it much easier for us to open the door without having to lug a heavy chair to support the door! The only thing is that the molding around the door frame means the door doesn't fit very close to the wall, so we had to install a doorstop and hook it in about 2 inches from the outside edge of the door. This means that in order to unlock it we must take care of it carefully. I want it to stick out of the wall by about 1 inch; then we could install the bolt in a more accessible place. If your door opens all the way so that the handle hits the wall, you shouldn't have this problem. All in all a great hard wearing product and we are so glad we got it!
