Review on Trail Glove Sneaker Beluga by Merrell: Your Ultimate Outdoor Adventure Companion by Chad Blanchet

Revainrating 1 out of 5

You ruined your best shoes

The Trail Glove 5s was a completely wrong step in the wrong direction, but still recommended. However, this Trail Glove 6 is downright bad. For some incomprehensible reason, Merrell has completely abandoned everything that made the Trail Glove a popular model for a decade. The TG2, TG3 and TG4 were great shoes barefoot with some extra support so while not exactly minimal they made for a slightly grippier, more robust and sporty feel, great for trails for example. Well, this isn't just another shoe, it has such a pronounced arch that it honestly feels like you're standing on a tube under the arch of your foot. I've had sizing issues with some model changes in the past, but that wasn't necessary with this model. I wanted the shoes to be off my feet within 30 seconds of trying them on indoors. They are not minimal. You are not barefoot. These are not hiking gloves. This is the biggest disappointment imaginable for this line of trail runners. Really terrible.

Pros
  • Great shoes. You have to buy some
Cons
  • Not wide enough. The toe is very tight. I liked the Trail 3, 4 and 5 gloves. These shoes are a disappointment.
