Lightweight, no frills, loud sound!

Useful Hack: The TYT-MD380 Spring-Loaded Belt Clip fits this radio! This is a major upgrade over the included cheese paper clip that came with the radio. This is the best you'd expect, but for a cost-effective, ultra-lightweight, waterproof, and compact HT that works over short distances with DMR or analog signal, it does. Well! Squelch settings > 1 can be too harsh and make the radio less sensitive than it actually is. . So don't be afraid to set the squelch to 1 and you'll hear more! I can meet repeaters on a mountain 35 miles away. Although the range from my AP is reduced by about 70% of the distance of my MD380, it is still stable around the house and in my yard. It's not designed to sit in a cradle and boot up/charge, but you can at least get it on while it's charging and charge it via a USB cable. The scanning speed is very slow, but that suits me! The RX's audio is loud and well balanced for such a small radio. There is a bug where sometimes the channel you are on when starting a scan disappears from your zone, but I am sure this will be fixed in a future firmware release. Using a Fringe HT repeater or a simplex isn't its forte or goal, but I'm very happy that it meets 90% of my use cases: conveniently carrying for a home hotspot, simplex in place, and using a full-coverage repeater!
