This device MUST use a 5V USB power supply. It seems to work great as long as you keep the USB cable plugged into a power source. I am using this to play a video on my TV screen from my phone for a 3 hour exhibition. It worked great. I also connected it to a small 5V USB charger and used it to play videos from my phone live on location. I had a small HDMI switch to switch from this cable to a Sony HD camera. It worked perfectly. I'll be using it on the 4 hour show this week.
