Worthless warranty on power tools and hand tools

Attention buyers. The Dewalt guarantee is worthless. A call to the main service number will tell them they are closed and you should contact your local service center. The Salt Lake City office is currently closed due to the panic response to COVID-19. I have a random orbit sander that I bought in November. 13.2019 and it stopped working for no reason. I am a homeowner and use a grinder occasionally. If the device couldn't handle my limited usage, I don't want to know how quickly it would fail with daily use. After visiting a warranty repair center in SLC, Utah, I went there to have my grinder repaired. As of May 28th there is a sign on the door explaining that they have been closed and do not have time to reopen. What a great way to serve your customers, Dewalt. I called the number provided and discussed my repair needs. I was instructed to get online and begin my return to duty. When I went online I found that the unit was and still is under warranty and to return the grinder under warranty I would need to provide a credit card number and my authorization to charge me $107 for repairs. I can currently get the same grinder online for $96. (The service request listed $107 and I was unable to proceed with the return without checking and paying the balance) The grinder was sold with a 3 year warranty and a 1 year labor warranty. Seven months later, the Dewalt factory service center is charging almost what I paid for the grinder. Obviously the guarantee isn't worth the paper it's printed on and I won't buy again from a company who can't stand their products. I would recommend looking at another brand behind their products. I will sell my collection of Dewalt tools and explore Milwaukee.
